Part 5 of 7
Medical & Emotional Care
Body first, and permission for whatever she's feeling
Injuries treated, prescriptions restarted, first-week emotions normalized without diagnosis
0 of 2 steps
Your body
If you're injured, get medical care
Many hospitals have a domestic violence advocate on staff who can support you and help start documentation at the same time — you can ask for them at check-in.
Refill any prescriptions you need
If he controlled access to your medication, this may be the first time in a while you can simply restart it. Pharmacies can transfer prescriptions to a new location.
What you're feeling
Shock. Numbness. Flashes of anger, then grief, then nothing. All of it is normal in the first week — none of it is a sign that something is wrong with you.
